We have been in the business (non-profit) of training technicians for twenty years. We use to provide student/techs solely to Ford dealers, but in the last few years we have expanded our offerings to private shops and fleet garages.
If your company is in the market for technicians, you have several scheduling options:
-10 week rotations, where you have the student for 10 full weeks, then they would return to school for 10 weeks. If you have another student from the other class, then they would replace the returning student. Leaving your shop with no-lapse in coverage
-A part time schedule that you work out with the student that could include Saturdays
- Or a combination of the above options
Your only cost is what you pay the student while they are working.
Suggested minimum pay scale is
1st CO-OP 9.50
2nd CO-OP 10.00
3rd CO-OP 10.50
4th CO-OP 11.00
The advantage with the CO-OP is you get to try out the student with no obligation, if it does not work out we will even "let them go" for you.
The other advantage of the CO-OP is that it keeps us honest as teachers, since we know that the student will be expected to perform whatever it is that we just taught the previous semester. Some of the private shops that currently have our students are:
